Alpine Ski Touring & Avalanche Course – Level 1

Learn how to find the best snow to fully enjoy the backcountry. Therefore it’s crucial you understand avalanche phenomena, recognize the terrain where avalanches occur and find routes that minimize risk.

The course gives you a “NF Skred grunnkurs and NF vidergående kurs” (the Norwegian mountain standard for avalanche courses). We will therefore cover all topics needed to be ready to ski in the backcountry. Mostly outside but there will also be some afternoons with indoor lectors. A normal NF grundkursus is 3,5 days, but we extended it to 7 to get more skiing and practice in. And also add the NF Videregående Skredkurs in same week.

Price: DKK 7.000,- per person

Requirements: All participants need to have done an introduction to ski tourining randonee or split board so they know how to walk uphill and ski down in easy off piste.

DAY FOR DAY 

Day 1 – 7 February  or 1 march:
Travel to Hemsedal, Skogshorn.
Official Opening 19:00
– Presentation of participants and instructors as well as expectations for the course
– Short tourplan for the next day

Day 2 – 8 February or 2 march: 

Get used to skiing up and down. NF Skred Grundkursus avalanche beacons drills.

Afternoon class about avalanche triangle and 3×3 tour planning for next day.

Day 3 – 9 February or 3 march: 
NF Skred Grundkursus – day out skiing – terrain and route choices

Day 4 – 10 February or 4 march: 
Finding some great snow and ski up and down (yo-yo) that place all day

Day 5 – 11 February or 5 march: 
One long day out skiing a big summit maybe a stage of Hemsedal Haute route. 

Day 6 – 12 February or 6 march: 
NF Videregående Skredkurs – day out skiing, look on the snowpack and SSU

Day 7– 13 February or 7 march: 
NF Videregående Skredkurs – day out skiing and avalanche rescue cases
Course evaluation and travel home around 14:00 or stay some extra days.

This program and location is a template and it might change according to weather and snow conditions.

Included:
Instruction 6,5 days (2 instructors, Ratio 6:1)
Accommodation 6 night in Norwegian hut
– With skin out and ski in to the hut

Not included:
– Own ski gear (avalanche beacon is mandatory)
  – Possible to rent in Hemsedal or from your home destination. Let us know in advance 
– Travel to and from home to Hemsedal
– Travel while being on the course (car rental, gas, etc)
– Food during the course (we are going to buy shared food and cook together)
– Any kind of insurance
