Alpine Ski Touring Haute Route – Level 3

The Norwegian Jotunheimen Haute Route is a spectacular 6-day ski touring adventure through the heart of Jotunheimen National Park – known as Høgruta in Norwegian. This legendary route traverses at least eight glaciers and seven 2.000-meter peaks, including Norway’s highest summits, Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind.

Along the way, we stay in cozy, staffed Norwegian mountain huts, providing a warm and welcoming refuge after long days in the mountains.

Each stage covers approximately 15 km, with 1.000–1.500 meters of ascent per day.

Instructor: Lars Bukkehave – certified after the Norwegian mountain guide standard (NF)

Group size:  Maximum 6 participants per guide (1:6 ratio) to ensure a safe and immersive experience.

Language: English, Danish & Norwegian

Price: DKK 14.250,- per person

Requirements: All participant must be in a good physical condition for sustained uphill travel and have the technical skills to ski confidently off-piste in varying snow conditions.

DAY FOR DAY 

Day 1 – Sunday 4 April: Travel to Jotunheimen, Norway
Meeting at DNT Gjendesheim for dinner at 18:00
Official Opening after dinner
– Presentation of participants and instructors as well as expectations for the trip
– Distribution of equipment

Day 2 – Monday 5 April: Workshop on avalanche and glaciser skiing

Hut for the night: DNT Gjendesheim

Day 3 – Tuesday 6 April: 
Ski from Gjendesheim via Nautgardstinden (2258m) to DNT Glitterheim

Hut for the night: D NT Glitterheim

Day 4 – Wednesday 7 April: 
Ski from Glitterheim via Glittertinden (2452m) to Spiterstulen.

Hut for the night: Spiterstulen

Day 5 – Thursday 8 April: 
Ski from Spiterstulen via Bukkeholstindan (2166m) to Leirvassbu

Hut for the night:  DNT Leirvassbu

Day 6 – Friday 9 April:
Ski from Leirvassbu via Storebjørn (2222m) to Krossbu.

Hut for the night: Krossbu

Day 7 – Saturday 10 April: 
Ski from Krossbu to Fanaråkken (2068m) and back to Krossbu. Transport back to DNT Gjendesheim to celebrate a complete Haute Route.

Day 8 – Sunday 11 April: 
Drive and travel home or stay some extra days. 

The route can chance according to weather and snow conditions, but we will still hike from hut to hut each day.

Transport from Krossbu to Gjendesheim

Not included:
– Randonee Skis and boots (possible to rent 1250DKK)  
– Personal avalanche gear and beacon (possible to rent 400DKK) 
– Personal glacier gear including harness, ice axe & crampons (possible to rent 350 DKK) 
– Drinks & snacks at huts
– Travel to and from Gjendesheim, Jotunheimen

NB. This itinerary has one more day than most Haute Route, as we spend 2 days on Spiterstulen to make sure we got time to summit Galdhøpiggen the highest peak in Norway. We also have an introduction training day at Gjendesheim.
