Golsfjellet and Hemsedal offers some of the best ice climbing in Europe, with a mix of single-pitch, multi-pitch, and alpine routes tucked into a stunning mountain landscape. This advanced course is designed for experienced climbers looking to take their skills further, with a focus on multi-pitch efficiency, mixed climbing, and travel in backcountry terrain.

Many of the climbs are accessed on snowshoes, adding a rewarding wilderness element to the experience. Along the way, we incorporate essential avalanche awareness and terrain assessment, giving you the tools to make informed decisions in snowy alpine environments. Expect full days of movement, technical instruction, and real-world application in Hemsedalโ€™s dramatic winter landscape.

Requirements: You must have completed a Level 2 intermediate multi-pitch ice climbing course. This ensures that everyone has a solid foundation in ice climbing techniques and multi-pitch systems.

Day 1 โ€“ Sunday 7 Feb
Arrival & Course Opening

  • Travel to Golsfjellet
  • Official course opening at 19:00 (the doors to the house opens at 1700 earliest)
  • Welcome and introductions (participants & instructors)
  • Course goals, expectations, and safety briefing
  • Equipment check and distribution

Day 2 โ€“ Monday 8 Feb
Back on the Ice

  • Single-pitch top-rope climbing
  • Refreshing fundamental ice climbing techniques
  • Focus on movement, balance, and efficiency

Day 3 โ€“ Tuesday 9 Feb
Building Towards Independence

  • Top-rope climbing and lead practice
  • Anchor building and stance management
  • Workshops preparing for multi-pitch ice climbing

Day 4 โ€“ Wednesday 10 Feb
First Multi-Pitch Day

  • Transition from single-pitch to multi-pitch climbing
  • Rope management, belay transitions, and communication
  • Applying skills in a real multi-pitch environment

Day 5 โ€“ Thursday 11 Feb
More Multi-Pitch, More Flow

  • Extended multi-pitch routes
  • Refining efficiency, decision-making, and teamwork
  • Developing confidence as a multi-pitch ice climber

Day 6 โ€“ Friday 12 Feb
Technique Deep Dive

  • Long single-pitch top-rope day
  • Strong focus on advanced climbing techniques
  • Movement analysis, footwork, and tool placement

Day 7 โ€“ Saturday 13 Feb
Big Day Out

  • Long and committing multi-pitch routes
  • Emphasis on endurance, pacing, and strategic climbing
  • Managing complex terrain and longer days

Day 8 โ€“ Sunday 14 Feb
Final Climbs & Course Wrap-Up

  • Last session on ice, mixed climbing, or dry tooling
  • Course evaluation and feedback
  • Departure and travel home around 14:00

Included in the Course Fee

  • 7.5 days of instruction
    3 instructors ยท max ratio 3:1
  • Accommodation in a mountain hut (7 nights)
  • Ice screws for lead climbing (bring if you have yourself)
  • Ropes (bring if you have yourself)

Not Included

  • Personal climbing equipment, mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axes
  • Travel to and from Golsfjellet
  • Bed linen and towel
    (mandatory โ€“ bring your own or rent at the hut for 150 DKK)
  • Transport during the course
    We need to have cars for transportation
    (car rental, fuel, etc.)
  • Personal insurance(s)
  • Food during the course
    (we will buy shared food and cook together)

Equipment Rental (Optional)

  • Snowshoes: 75 DKK per day
  • Personal climbing equipment (full set): 500 DKK per course
  • Crampons: 300 DKK per course
