Rock & Trad Climbing Course – Hemsedal, Norway

This 6-day traditional climbing course in Hemsedal and area is a structured and progressive introduction to climbing on your own protection. Just like our ice climbing courses, the program is built around clear daily themes, strong repetition, and steady progression from basic skills to full-value climbing days.

Hemsedal offers an ideal learning environment with solid granite, varied crack systems, and easy access to both single- and multi-pitch routes. Throughout the week, we focus on developing safe habits, good judgement, and efficient systems – not rushing grades, but building confidence you can rely on when climbing independently.

DAY BY DAY 

Day 1 – Saturday 23 May 
Arrival at Golsfjellet

• Welcome and course briefing at 19:00 (the door to the house open earliest at 17:00).
• Gear check and introduction to the fundamentals of trad climbing: equipment, terminology, and safety protocols.
• We will every evening make dinner together and make a briefing of the day.
  

Day 2 – Sunday 24 May
Basics of Trad Climbing

• Today we will focus on understanding the gear, the placement, building anchors, and proper rope techniques.
• In the afternoon we will climb an easy route in a controlled environment, with a focus on placements and safety.
  

Day 3 – Monday 25 May
Multi-Pitch Trad Climbing

• Full day of climbing a multi-pitch trad route. 
• Focus on mental preparation for multi-pitch routes, problem-solving, and route-finding.

Day 4 – Tuesday 26 May
Multi pitch classic bolted route

• Climb multi pitch bolded route.
• Practice speed and rope works.

Day 5 – Wednesday 27 May
Hemsedal Classics

• Climb one of Hemsedal classic trad routes, focusing on executing the skills learned earlier in the week.
• Work on endurance and mental focus for sustained climbs, team dynamics, and rope management.
• Evening: Relaxed evening at the camp and final dinner.

Day 6 – Thursday 28 May
Climb the last power out of our arms

• Mini-climb for those who want to continue practicing or try something a little more technical.
• We will finalize the course at 14.00.

• 7 days of instruction
  First 3 days ratio 3:1, last 2 full days ratio 2:1
• Accommodation in our mountain house (5 nights)
• Trad gear (bring your own if you have some)
